Job Description:

Reports To: Communications and Development Director

Location: Remote; San Francisco-based organization

Compensation: $80-100 per hour

Duration: Short-term, up to 4-months. Estimated 10-20 hours weekly. Possible opportunity for extension.

This is a 1099 contractor role, and the individual will not be an employee of the organization. The contractor is responsible for their own taxes and benefits. The individual will have the autonomy to set their own hours and work remotely.

Position Summary:

The Development Consultant will support Family Connections’ efforts in securing public and private funding, prospecting and cultivating donors and corporate partners, and ensuring the timely submission of applications and reports. This role will contribute to the Development Department's goals by utilizing agency grant materials, program data, and publicly available resources to create compelling narratives that increase visibility and funding for our programs. The position requires exceptional writing, editing, project management skills, and a solid understanding of fundraising practices. Deliverables must meet set deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draft and support the submission of effective and prompt grant proposals and reports that are well-researched and customized to adhere to stipulated funding requirements and Family Connections’ program needs
  • Conduct research and cultivate corporate sponsors/partners, foundation funders, and individual donors
  • Support donation and in-kind gift tracking in the Salesforce database
  • Draft copy for occasional fundraising campaigns
  • Adhere to the FCC Style Guide, proofread proposals to correct errors before submission, and ensure that all materials have high-quality and compelling
  • Offer input and research to improve department strategies, proposals, and projects
  • Submit completed assignments on time and in the required document format

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or substantial experience in place of degree
  • 4+ years’ minimum experience in fundraising/development/communications/marketing
  • Excellent writing and composition skills, excellent grammar and editing, strong attention to detail, and ability to convey complex messages and impact through strong, persuasive communications
  • Ability to tailor writing style to suit different audiences or funding requirements
  • Ability to function independently, critical and strategic thinking, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities
  • Highly organized, superior attention to detail, and excellent follow-through
  • Strong knowledge of office applications and online collaboration tools, such as Microsoft Suite, Google products, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Adobe PDF required
  • Familiarity with online grant applications and portals preferred
  • Familiarity with nonprofits, San Francisco Bay Area, family resource centers, and the fields of early childhood education and family support preferred

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, experience working effectively in diverse communities of staff and participants, and knowledge of San Francisco’s diverse community and learning styles
  • Professional ethics of confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment
  • Perform other duties as needed or requested by the Communications and Development Director

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, bend, kneel, and crouch. This job requires extended periods of time at a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
