Compensation: $64,480-68,640 per year ($31-$33 hourly), depending on experience, plus excellent benefits

Classification: Non-exempt, full-time position, 40 hrs/wk

Schedule: Monday-Friday, on-site (one day remote), and occasional weekends for events

Position Summary:

The Communications Coordinator serves as an ambassador and amplifier for Family Connections Centers. In alignment with the department’s goals and strategies, the position develops written and visual materials that increase the visibility and participation of our programs. The position will use program data, creative storytelling, attractive design, and various communications platforms and strategies to engage our diverse audience, amplify FCC’s mission, and connect with participants, staff, media, and volunteers in the education and family support fields.

Additional experience in coordinating translations, maintaining websites and digital platforms, adhering to style guides, and utilizing video and photos is also required. This position is ideal for someone with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks while maintaining focus.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with program staff to gather information and create clear, accurate flyers, marketing materials, and outreach collateral. Distribute these materials to program participants, funders, volunteers, staff, and stakeholders, including translations in Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese as needed.
  • Draft and distribute high-quality and polished versions of FCC’s e-newsletters, social media posts, press releases, and internal communications.
  • Engage with programs by visiting sites to capture photos, videos, stories, and testimonials from participants; organize and maintain photo folders, and ensure the website and digital platforms are regularly updated with fresh materials.
  • Proactively maintain and update FCC’s website, social media platforms, and digital communications; develop campaigns and strategies to engage our audience and increase our reach and followers across all platforms.
  • Assist in the planning and outreach for FCC’s large-scale community and fundraising events, working closely with the Development Team, volunteers, Board members, and partners to coordinate various logistical details and ensure successful execution.
  • Coordinate and enhance volunteer engagement with FCC by collaborating with staff to promote positive volunteer experiences and develop new individual and corporate volunteer opportunities. Conduct outreach to local companies and partners. Regularly engage with agency volunteers to ensure rewarding experiences and manage the distribution of related volunteer materials and information.
  • Coordinate and staff occasional evening/weekend events with the ability to communicate organizational goals to the public; cultivate relationships with families, volunteers, and local partners.
  • Adhere to and update the FCC Style Guide and support staff communications, ensuring all materials have high-quality, error-free copy and design.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or substantial experience directly related to position skill requirements
  • 2-3 years minimum experience in communications, development, and/or outreach, preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • Excellent writing and composition skills, excellent grammar and editing abilities, strong attention to detail, and ability to convey complex messages and impact through strong, persuasive communications
  • Proficiency across a variety of key communications tasks, including producing e-newsletters, social media content, press releases, and internal communications in adherence to style guides
  • Experience maintaining websites and digital platforms and incorporating video and photos
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, and Canva
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships and collaborate effectively with team members, partners, participants, staff, volunteers, and funders
  • Critical and strategic thinking, flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a high level of detail, while staying on track for individual project requirements and deadlines
  • Self-directed and focused, with the ability to follow instructions and seamlessly transition between independent work and collaborative tasks

Strongly Preferred:

  • Experience with Constant Contact, Salesforce, WordPress, and producing graphics/vide
  • Experience in producing multicultural and multilingual communications and event
  • Familiarity with the field of ECE and Family Support, and San Francisco
  • Experience coordinating timely and accurate translations.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, experience working effectively in diverse communities of staff and participants, and knowledge of San Francisco’s diverse community and learning styles
  • Professional ethics of confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with community partners
  • Perform other duties as needed or requested by the supervisor
  • Stay updated on CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter, Pesticide training, Workplace Harassment, Workplace Violence, and required vaccinations
  • Live Scan background and Health Screening clearance are required to be maintained throughout employment

Work Environment:

This position operates in a hybrid work environment with mandatory on-site hours at FCC’s centers in Portola, Visitacion Valley, and Excelsior. Some remote work is possible. Work is scheduled weekdays, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening/weekend work to support events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.  

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, bend, kneel, and crouch. The employee must lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and, on occasion, may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. This job requires extended periods at a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
